After watching the film, your first thoughts were probably to do with what is the Ryan Reynolds Diet or what is the Ryan Reynolds Workout Routine. How does he get into such awesome shape?

Well, lets talk about what he doesn't do.

Ok, we all know that compound exercises are what you perform to get the best bang for your buck in the gym to bulk up. But, this is not the way to go if you want to look like Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern. You see, performing heavy resistance training with compound exercises is great if you want that bodybuilder look. But not so great if you want that Hollywood movie star look. A training technique known as the shrinkwrap effect that fellow stars like Dwayne Johnson, Taylor Lautner and Brad Pitt use to get into shape before shooting a movie.

Dwayne Johnson Workout, aka The Rock, has starred in movies such as The Scorpion King, Race to Witch Mountain, The Tooth Fairy, The Rundown, Walking Tall, and is in the upcoming action movie Faster. While he is now a lean Hollywood star, The Rock used to be much bulkier.

In college, Dwayne Johnson played defensive end at 285lbs. He slimmed down to 260lbs when he entered the WWE. He need a more athletic build. This also helped him get a more defined, marketable build.

Ok. The workout.

Once Chris Hemsworth knew he got the role for Thor, the director Kenneth Branagh told Chris to bulk up as quick as he can for the role. Chris did exactly that and gained 20lbs of muscle in just 12 weeks.

FANTASTIC!!!

But...

Chris actually got too big and the director said he needed to slim down?

Huh??

Well, first I'll describe what Chris Hemsworth did to gain 20lbs of muscle

Muscle building period: Part 1

What Chris did was simple. Eat well, sleep well and perform compound exercises ONLY. These are exercises that use all 4 limbs of your body at the same time, which is great for functional strength building too. The Big 3 compound exercises Chris used were

1. The Bench Press

2. Deadlifts

3. Squats

The problem

This is great, but, this type of workout gave Chris a curvy, hour-glass waist line. This is something guys will not want. You want the V-shape body. Small waist, bigger upper body. What I like to call the super hero physique.

The Director gave Chris 3 weeks to change his physique in time for shooting. To lose some of that bulk and lean out, tightening up his skin.
